Rudy Giuliani sent the advocates of universal health care into a hair-pulling frenzy by saying his chances of surviving prostate cancer would have plummeted had he been a patient in Britain’s national health service. They fired back with their own statistics alleging the former New York mayor was wrong. When the dust settled, it was clear that for most cancers, including prostate, Giuliani is right: You’re better off under the U.S. health system. “My chance of surviving prostate cancer, and thank God I was cured of it, in the United States, 82 percent,” Giuliani said in a radio ad. “My chances of surviving prostate cancer in England, only 44 percent under socialized medicine.” (more…)
